Universal restrained Metal Expansion Joints - flanged

This model is made up of two bellows joined together by a central pipe and a system of tie rods able to withstand the thrust produced by the internal pressure.

This model of lateral expansion joint is used to absorb lateral movements in all planes. In addition and with a special design and/or positioning of the tie rods system this type may be used to absorb some axial and angular movements*.

The tie rods are provided in sets of two or more, equally distributed around the circumference of the expansion joint. When the Universal Expansion Joint is supplied with 2 tie rods at 180 degrees, the expansion joint is free to deflect angularly and laterally. With three or more tie rods only lateral deflections are possible.

The amount of lateral deflection of the lateral expansion joint depends on the amount of angulation each bellows can absorb and the length or the central pipe. The amount of lateral deflection capability can be increased or decreased by simply changing the length of the spool pipe and the thermal expansion of the central pipe is taken by the bellows elements.

Features of the universal restrained expansion joint:

  • Absorbs lateral movements in all planes
  • this lateral expansion joint restrains pressure thrust
  • Adequate anchors and guides must be provided for this type of expansion joint

Lateral expansion joints are available with:

  • Inner sleeve
  • Cover
  • Tie rods
  • Hinges
  • Gimbal

FAQ

What materials are used in the construction of the expansion joints?
The expansion joints are typically made of high-quality metal alloys designed to withstand high pressure and temperature variations.
What is the range of movement these joints can accommodate?
These joints are designed to absorb lateral, axial, and angular movements, depending on the specific configuration of the tie rods.
How are the expansion joints installed?
Installation involves securing the flanged ends to the piping system, ensuring proper alignment and support for the tie rods.
Expert Advice: Ensure that the tie rods are properly tensioned during installation to maximize the performance and lifespan of the expansion joints.

Hinged Metal Expansion Joints - flanged

Hinged Metal Expansion Joints - flanged

Hinges are mounted to limit the expansion joint to absorb movements in only one plane in the hinged metal expansion joints. Due to the hinges the expansion joint is not able to absorb axial movement. The hinge is likewise designed to protect the bellow from torsion. These movement limiters reduce the loads from the pressure thrust force and the temperature of the pipeline. The pressure thrust force from the media is in this way absorbed in the pipeline. The hinges are designe..
