PTFE Tank lid seal

Compression PTFE tank lid seal packing is made of a special hollow rubber core, protected by two bands of hard-wearing PTFE, wrapped by a thick, square-edged and very resistant polypropylene padding. The sealant Tank lid PACKING used is asbestos-free and is clad in another layer of interwoven PTFE.

PTFE tank lid packing - NAVY TANK includes a large selection of pre-formed rings and rolls to be cut to length. It is used for chemical inspection hatches and for lids of tanks used for transportation.

It maintains its elasticity and efficiency for a long period and guarantees a hermetic seal. It is available in square and rectangular sections and may be used to shape ring gaskets of any diameter, suitable to seal hatches.

The maximum operating temperature is 100°C. Navy tank is a product that complies with all international norms.

ADVANTAGES

The exceptional flexibility of the PTFE tank lid packing for tanks permits this product to adapt itself easily to any irregularities in the surface grooves of hatches and covers. Obviously, it will be necessary to calculate the exact dimensions of the channeling to obtain a perfectly sealed shutting.

Production tolerance values for the section of the gasket are between –1 and +2 mm.

INSTRUCTION FOR CUSTOMISING LENGTHS

Insert the sealant into the cover’s channel along its circumference and mark the overlap with a pencil. Remove the sealant and carry out an incision at 90° to the mark made beforehand. Roughen the cut edge to facilitate the welding of the joint. The ends may be joined by gluing.

Alternatively, it is possible to heat a plate to 300°/350°C and hold the two ends to it until they start to melt. Now unite them and press them together until the joint cools and seals. Ensure that the joint is perfectly sealed by pressing slightly, then clean with silicone grease and wrap it with the PTFE tape. Complete the operation by applying the PTFE cord in a diagonal pattern (figures 3 and 4).

Spread silicone grease to the whole of the sealant’s length and to the channel.

Fit the finished gasket into the groove, first on the straight section then on the underside, ensuring that the joint is opposite the lid hinge. Push down, by applying very delicately an adequate pressure.

Add 1 mm for lengths under 40 cm.

Add 2 mm for lengths over 40 cm.
