Polyamide 66

Polyamide 66 (PA 66) - has good rigidity, hardness, abrasion resistance and thermal dimensional stability. With respect to these particular aspects, PA66 offers certain advantages compared to PA 6.

Compared to the cast types, PA 66 has higher moisture absorption. With regard to all other characteristics, PA 66 is comparable to the standard cast type PA 6 G, but more expensive.

  • good mechanical strength
  • high impact strength
  • good damping characteristics
  • good resistance to wear

Among commercially available polyamides, PA66 has one of the highest melting points. It is a semicrystalline-crystalline material. The grades have strength and stiffness which is retained at elevated temperatures.

It does absorb moisture after molding, but the retention is not as much as in the case of PA6. Moisture absorption depends on the composition of the material, wall thickness, and environmental conditions.

Dimensional stability and properties are all affected by the amount of moisture absorption which must be taken into account for product design.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are the key mechanical properties of Polyamide 66 (PA 66)?

Polyamide 66 (PA 66) is known for its good mechanical strength and high impact strength. It exhibits excellent rigidity and hardness, making it suitable for demanding applications. Its thermal dimensional stability allows it to maintain its form under varying temperatures, which is a significant advantage over other polyamides like PA 6.

How does moisture absorption in PA 66 compare to other polyamides?

While PA 66 offers many advantages, it has a higher moisture absorption rate compared to cast types such as PA 6. This characteristic can affect its mechanical properties and dimensional stability in humid environments, which is an important consideration when selecting materials for specific applications.

What applications are best suited for Polyamide 66 sheets and rods?

Due to its mechanical properties, Polyamide 66 rods and Polyamide 66 sheets are widely used in engineering applications that require high strength, durability, and resistance to wear and tear. Common applications include automotive components, industrial machinery parts, and electrical insulators, where reliable performance under stress is critical.
