Hydraulic Wiper Seals
Hydraulic cylinders are used in a wide range of applications and environments, including those with dust, debris, or extreme weather. Wiper seals (also called as scrapers, excluders, or dust seals) are installed on the exterior surface of the cylinder head to prevent pollutants from entering the cylinder assembly and hydraulic system.
When the equipment is stationary (no reciprocating motion of the piston rod) and in operation (dynamic, reciprocating rod), hydraulic wiper seals maintain sealing contact with the piston rod, whilst the rod seal determines the rod diameter d tolerance. The retracting piston rod might convey impurities into the cylinder without a wiper seal.
The wiper seal's outer static sealing within the housing is also critical to prevent moisture or particles from penetrating around the wiper seal.
